March 17th- Home Group Questions

Key Scriptures: Hebrews 6:18-7:10 (ESV)

Facilitator Questions:
Themes:  Jesus, a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek
Start thinking:  Ask a question to get your group thinking.
  • What do these verses tell us about Melchizedek?
  • What else do you know about Melchizedek? What questions do you have about him?
  •  Why is it significant that Abraham’s descendants, the Levites, received tithes from the other Israelites but Abraham , their patriarch, paid a tithe to Melchizedek?
  • What does it meant that Jesus is a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek? What do they have in common?
  • What do verses 19-20 mean, that Jesus entered into the inner place behind the curtain as a forerunner on our behalf, and that we also can enter the inner place?
Start sharing:  Choose a question to create openness.
  • Verses 18-20 say that it gives strong encouragement, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul and a hope that enters the Holy Place behind the curtain, to know that Jesus went there on our behalf as our forerunner. Do you understand these verses? Have you ever thought this way? How can you apply these verses to your life?
  • Do you have a sure and steadfast anchor for your soul? What is it? If not, how can you get one?
  • 1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” Do you see yourself as royal, priestly, holy and set apart as God’s own possession? Why or why not?
Start praying:  Be bold and pray with power.
  • Praise and thank Jesus being the great High Priest, who mediates between us and God.
  • Thank Jesus for the sacrificial work He performed as our priest to make us acceptable to God.
  • Thank God for giving His Word, and ask Him to reveal His mysteries so you can worship Him better.
  • Confess your need for Jesus’ cleansing work in your life. Repent of anything necessary, and thank Him for forgiving you.
  • Pray for holiness to pervade your life, your family and your church.
Start doing:  Commit to a step and live it out this week.
  • Look up Melchizedek in a Bible dictionary, study guide or commentary, to know more about him.
  • Think every day about God calling you to be holy, as He is holy. Get rid of any things or
habits that contaminate your holiness.
