- Why does God’s Word often remind us to be thankful to God? What purposes does gratitude serve?
- Read Psalm 107:1-3. How would you describe the characteristics and the importance of God’s goodness, lovingkindness, redemption from the adversary, and salvation throughout the world?
- Read the rest of the psalm. From what situations or conditions did God rescue people in each paragraph?
- Verse 43 gives a conclusion and application. What is its message?
- On Thanksgiving day, do you or your family or friends have any traditions of expressing thanks?
- Psalm 107 is one of many that reminds us to consider what God has done. What is something God has done in your life that gives you great cause for thanksgiving?
- How would you rate your attitude of thanksgiving in general? How does it show in your private time with God and your relationships with other people?
- When you pray to God, how do you balance thankfulness with asking Him for things? What does your balance reveal about your attitude or your faith?
- What can you do to focus more attention on remembering God’s many blessings?
- Spend time thanking God for what He has done for you personally and for others around you.
- Thank Him for choosing you, redeeming you, calling you into a relationship with Himself, and giving you a purpose for your life.
- Thank Him for what He has already done and is still doing in the Church, the community, the nation and the world.
- Confess any ungrateful attitude and ask Him to give you a grateful heart.
- Practice remembering God and looking to Him throughout each day. Make a commitment to pause several times every day to thank Him.
- Watch for the Holy Spirit to teach you as you cultivate a habit of thanksgiving. Notice what you will see differently, because something will certainly happen.
