Facilitator Questions:
Themes:  What is faith?
Start thinking:  Ask a question to get your group thinking.
  • Read Hebrews 11:1 in several versions of the New Testament. What do they tell you about faith?
  • What do Hebrews 11:3 and 4:2 say about the working of faith in the human heart? What does it tell you about the difference between believers and unbelievers?
  • Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God….” 1 Corinthians 12:9 says faith is a gift of the Holy Spirit, and Galatians 5:22 says faithfulness is the fruit of the Holy Spirit. What do these verses teach about God and about faith being a priority for Him?
  • How would you define faith? What is it, and what is it not? How does it manifest itself?
Start sharing:  Choose a question to create openness.
  • Laying hold of faith causes you to come alive spiritually. What are some things you positively know are true, which other people who are spiritually dead have trouble accepting?
  • The world says, “Seeing is believing”, and faith says, “Believe, and then you will see.” Do you tend to believe God more because of what you have seen Him do or because you trust that “Nothing shall be impossible with God” (Luke 1:37)? Give examples.
  • In Mark 9:24, the father of the sick child cried out to Jesus, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.” How do you relate to this man’s cry?
  • How do you actively exercise, maintain and strengthen your faith?
Start praying:  Be bold and pray with power.
  • Thank Jesus and glorify Him for being the author and finisher of our faith. He gives us everything we need to believe Him. Tell Him you trust Him with your life.
  • Praise and thank God for opening your eyes to the things of the Spirit and giving you abundant life. Thank Him specifically for the ways your life is abundant because you believe on Him.
  • Confess and repent of any unbelief you are aware of, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal other areas of unbelief that you don’t realize you have.
  • Pray for people who are spiritually blind, that the Holy Spirit will open their eyes.
  • Pray that God will use you to bring light to people who are in darkness.
Start doing:  Commit to a step and live it out this week.
  • Pray for the opportunity to share your faith with someone, and be ready to follow through when it happens.
  • Every day this week, pray for God to move in a situation that seems discouraging or impossible to you.
