Discussion Questions
Understanding Discipleship
- What does the word "discipleship" mean to you? How has your understanding changed after hearing this message?
- Colleen shared about praying as a high school freshman to understand the Bible better. What prayers have you prayed about your spiritual growth? How has God answered?
- The sermon mentioned that Jesus invested in 12 disciples rather than building a megachurch. What does this teach us about God's priorities?
Personal Reflection
- Who are you learning from? Do you have someone investing in your spiritual life? If not, who might you ask to mentor you?
- Who are you investing in? Is there someone God is calling you to disciple or walk alongside?
- Todd illustrated how only Jesus fills the void in our hearts. What things have you tried to use to fill that void besides Jesus (relationships, money, achievements, etc.)?
Living It Out
- Acts 2:42-47 describes believers meeting together daily, sharing meals, and praising God. How can we create more opportunities for this kind of community in our lives?
- Colleen challenged us to think about our "realm of influence." Where has God strategically placed you (work, neighborhood, hobbies, etc.)? Who in those spaces might God be calling you to reach?
- The vision of lights turning on across campus represents revival spreading. What would revival look like in your sphere of influence?
This Week:
Choose at least one action step to complete this week:
- Read the Book of Acts - Commit to reading one chapter per day through February (28 chapters). Journal what stands out to you about the early disciples.
- Identify Your Four Generations - Write down your discipleship chain using 2 Timothy 2:2 as a model:
- Who discipled you? (Paul to Timothy)
- Who are you discipling? (Timothy to faithful people)
- Who are they influencing? (faithful people to others)
- Pray about any missing links
- Invite Someone - Like Sophie invited Kimberly, invite someone to:
- Coffee or a meal
- Church or a church event
- Alpha Course (if your church offers it)
- This small group
- Start Praying for Three - Identify three people in your life who don't know Jesus. Commit to praying for them daily and looking for opportunities to share God's love.
- Open Your Home - Schedule a time in the next month to invite someone (or a family) into your home for a meal. Make it about building relationship and living life together.
- Reach Out to Your Mentor or Mentee - If you have someone who has invested in you, send them a note of thanks. If you're investing in someone, reach out and schedule time together
Closing Reflection
"You are the light of Jesus everywhere you go. That spark can be given to someone else and someone else and someone else."
- How does it feel to know that your life has the power to influence someone for God's kingdom?
- What is one way you can let your light shine brighter this week?
