Life Group Questions - August 16th

Warm-Up Question: Think about a time when you discovered something you believed to be true turned out to be false. How did that experience affect the way you evaluate information now?

Discussion Questions:
Section 1: The Last Hour (1 John 2:18)
  1. Pastor Rino described the "last hour" as beginning with the birth of Christ and intensifying ever since. How does thinking of your life within that framework change the way you approach your daily priorities?
  2. Pastor said: "If we really, really grasp that time was short, hopefully we would live different." What is one area of your life where a deeper awareness of eternity would produce a noticeable change?
  3. How do you see the spirit of antichrist at work in culture today — in media, politics, or even within the church? How do you personally guard against being shaped by it?

Section 2: The Makeup of Apostasy (1 John 2:19)
  1. The passage says that those who departed "were not really of us." What does it look like practically to have an outward association with Christianity without genuine, saving faith? How can a person examine themselves honestly?
  2. Pastor noted that most apostate movements — teachings that drift from biblical truth — started inside the church. Why do you think false teaching so often originates from within rather than from the outside? What does that mean for how we engage with new spiritual ideas or teachers?
  3. True Christians share core convictions: the authority of Scripture, the sinfulness of humanity, salvation through Christ alone, His death and bodily resurrection, the indwelling Holy Spirit, and His return. Which of these do you feel most confident in? Which do you feel you need to grow in understanding?

Section 3: The Christian's Divine Defense (1 John 2:20-21)
  1. Pastor Rino emphasized that every believer has been anointed by the Holy Spirit — not just church leaders. How actively are you relying on the Holy Spirit in your daily life? What does that look like practically for you?
  2. Pastor shared that missionaries in a Muslim country were seeing people show up at their door after dreaming about Jesus, saying: "I want to see that in America. I want to see my neighbor walk across the parking lot and knock on my front door. But I'm here to tell you, you've got to have something to offer that Holy Spirit would draw them to your place." What does it mean to you personally to "have something to offer"? What would need to change in your life for that to be a reality?
  3. Read Ephesians 1:13 — the verse describing the Holy Spirit sealing believers. What does it mean to you that the Spirit's presence in your life is not temporary or conditional? How does that security affect the way you face spiritual opposition or personal failure?

Section 4: The Center of the Conflict (1 John 2:22-23)
  1. Pastor Rino said that the defining question of the antichrist spirit is the denial of Jesus as the Christ — God in the flesh. In your conversations with people who do not follow Jesus, what are the most common alternative views of who Jesus is? How do you respond?
  2. Romans 10:9-10 describes confessing Jesus as Lord and believing in His resurrection as the path to salvation. Is there someone in your life right now who needs to hear that message? What is one step you could take this week to share it?
  3. Pastor closed with this challenge: "Do you know how you defend against the Antichrist? You live the life as a Christ follower." What does living apologetics — a life that is itself a defense of the gospel — look like in your neighborhood, workplace, or family?

Closing Prayer Focus
Close your time together by praying over these three things:
  1. That each person in the group would live with a renewed awareness of the urgency of the hour.
  2. That the Holy Spirit would sharpen your discernment against false teaching and deception.
  3. That God would open specific doors this week to share the truth of who Jesus is with someone who does not yet know Him.
