Life Group Questions - July 12th

Icebreaker Question: Share about a time when something you expected turned out to be different from reality. How did that experience shape your perspective?

Discussion Questions
Understanding the Text
  1. John begins his letter by emphasizing his personal, sensory experience with Jesus. Why was this important for the early church facing false teaching? How does it matter for us today?
  2. What does it mean that "the life was manifested" (v. 2)? How have you personally experienced Christ being manifested in your life?
  3. Pastor Rino mentioned John had "zero tolerance for fake." Read 1 John 2:22 and 4:2-3. Why do you think John was so direct about identifying false teachers?

Personal Reflection
  1. The sermon contrasted "wanting something real" with "finding something real." What are some things people pursue today hoping to find satisfaction? Where have you looked for fulfillment outside of Christ?
  2. Pastor shared about struggling with tithing when the amount became significant. What spiritual disciplines become harder when the cost increases? How do we remain faithful in those moments?
  3. John writes "so that our joy may be made complete" (v. 4). On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your current joy level? What's the difference between happiness and biblical joy?

Applying Truth
  1. The sermon emphasized that witnessing isn't about arguing but about sharing our experience with Christ. How does this change your perspective on evangelism? Who in your life needs to hear about your experience with Jesus?
  2. Read the five purposes again (fellowship, joy, not sinning, not being deceived, assurance). Which of these do you most need to focus on right now? Why?
  3. Pastor said, "If you let the devil steal your joy, you have no strength anymore." What situations or circumstances tend to steal your joy? How can you protect it?

Accountability Questions:
1. Have you been pursuing "real" relationship with Jesus or just going through religious motions?
2. What "fake" thing have you been tolerating in your spiritual life?
3. Are you certain of your salvation? If asked, could you say "I know" rather than "I hope so"?
