Life Group Questions - April 12th
Ice Breaker Question: Share about someone in your life who consistently reminded you of something important (parent, teacher, coach, mentor). How did you feel about it at the time versus how you feel about it now?
Discussion Questions:
Understanding the Message
1. The Pattern of Forgetfulness
- Why do you think God had to repeat the same messages throughout Scripture so many times?
- What does Deuteronomy 6:12 ("beware lest you forget the Lord") teach us about human nature?
- Pastor Rino mentioned we often "remember the things we should forget and forget the things we should remember." Can you relate to this? Share an example.
- What are some of God's faithfulness moments in your life that you tend to forget when facing current challenges?
- Peter knew he was going to die soon, yet he didn't ask for prayer to avoid it. Instead, he focused on making sure people would remember. What does this teach us about priorities?
- What truths do you want to make sure you pass on to the next generation before your "earthly dwelling" is laid aside?
Personal Reflection:
4. Muscle Memory
- The sermon mentioned how "muscle memory" can cause us to repeat old mistakes. What spiritual "muscle memories" (old habits, thought patterns) do you struggle with?
- What are three specific things God has done in your life that you never want to forget?
- How can you create "reminders" (like the Israelites' 12 stones or tassels) to help you remember God's faithfulness?
- Who in your life needs you to be a "loving nag" - someone who reminds them of eternal truths?
- What holds you back from being that person? (Fear of being annoying, pride, etc.)
- Who are the "naggers" God has placed in your life? How do you typically respond to them?
- How can you be more receptive to godly reminders, even when you've heard them before?
- Philippians 3:13 tells us to forget what lies behind and reach forward. What past failures or hurts do you need to intentionally forget so you can move forward?
- How can the group support you in this?
Closing Prayer
Prayer Focus:
- Thank God for His faithfulness that is worth remembering.
- Ask for grace to receive reminders with humility.
- Pray for courage to be loving "nags" to those who need it.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to help us forget what should be forgotten and remember what should be remembered.
