Question: Share one thing you've learned or experienced during fasting in the past, or if you're new to fasting, what are your hopes for this 21-day journey?
Discussion Questions:
Section 1: Personal Reflection on Fasting
Section 2: Clarity and God's Will
Section 3: Strongholds and Clean Soil
Section 4: Warfare and Victory
Section 5: Redefining Success
Closing Prayer:
Father, we thank You for Your Word and for this time together. We ask that during this fast, You would bring clarity where there is confusion, clean soil where there is contamination, and freedom where there are strongholds. Help us to take every thought captive and to speak Your truth over our lives. We are more than conquerors through Christ who loves us. Nothing can separate us from Your love. Wash our hearts clean and prepare us for the great things You have planned. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Discussion Questions:
Section 1: Personal Reflection on Fasting
- What is your "why" for this fast? What do you hope God will do in your life during these 21 days?
- Pastor mentioned keeping your fast "manageable and happy." What are you fasting from, and how can you approach it with joy rather than burden?
- Read 2 Corinthians 5:17. What does it mean to you that "all things have passed away; behold, new things have come"? What "new thing" do you need from God right now?
Section 2: Clarity and God's Will
- The sermon asked: "Am I on the right path?" What areas of your life do you need God to bring clarity to right now? (Examples: career, relationships, parenting, ministry, finances)
- Psalm 32:8 says, "I will give you insight and teach you in the way which you should go." When was a time God clearly directed your path? How did you recognize His guidance?
Section 3: Strongholds and Clean Soil
- Pastor shared about his uncle's comment: "God, you got fat." What words or experiences from your past still echo in your mind today? How have they shaped your thinking?
- Read Romans 12:2. What does it mean to "be transformed by the renewal of your mind"? What specific thought patterns do you need God to transform?
- The sermon mentioned that strongholds can include: unworthiness, shame, rejection, loneliness, fear of failure. Which of these resonates most with you? Why?
- Discuss the "scandalon" (offense/trap) concept. What are some common "triggers" that trap you emotionally or spiritually? How can you prepare yourself to avoid these traps?
Section 4: Warfare and Victory
- Read 2 Corinthians 10:3-5. The pastor said, "You need to be on the offensive this year." What does offensive spiritual warfare look like in daily life?
- The sermon emphasized renouncing lies and speaking truth. What are some biblical truths you need to declare over your life? (Examples: "I am accepted in the beloved," "Greater is He that is in me," "No weapon formed against me shall prosper")
- Philippians 4:8 tells us to think about what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable. How can you practically apply this when negative thoughts bombard your mind?
Section 5: Redefining Success
- Pastor shared how his definition of success changed from dollar signs to kingdom impact and family legacy. How do you currently define success? How does God define it?
- What would it look like for you to measure success by kingdom principles rather than worldly standards?
